Frequently asked questions

Nutrina's database primarily consists of foods from the Canadian Nutrient File (CNF), a comprehensive nutrition database. You can use these foods as ingredients when creating your dishes or add them individually to your journal. Each food from the CNF includes a detailed analysis of both macronutrients and micronutrients.

Please note that Nutrina does not feature a barcode scanner for industrial products. This is because processed foods often lack a complete nutrient analysis, with manufacturers typically providing only macronutrient data and, occasionally, a select few micronutrients, the reliability of which may vary. To address this limitation, Nutrina offers a selection of generic foods that correspond to most industrial products commonly found in Western countries.

We are actively working on incorporating additional data sources into Nutrina, so you can look forward to an even more comprehensive food database in the near future.
Nutrina uses the Canadian Nutrient File (CNF) as its primary source of nutrient data. The CNF is a comprehensive nutrition database, and a significant portion of its data derives from the USDA (U.S. Department Of Agriculture).

However, it's important to note that these figures represent average values. Exact nutrient content can vary based on numerous factors such as the variety of the food, cooking methods, and more. Therefore, while Nutrina provides reliable estimates, they are intended for use as a general reference for healthy individuals only, not as medical advice. Nutrina is not intended for medical use. If you have a medical condition or suspect a deficiency, please consult with a health professional.
Yes, Nutrina can be a helpful tool for weight loss. It allows you to track your macronutrient and micronutrient intake, helping you to make informed dietary choices and develop a balanced and healthy eating plan.

However, remember that weight loss should ideally be integrated into a broader lifestyle approach that includes regular physical activity. While Nutrina can provide valuable information and tools, it's recommended to consult with a healthcare professional or a dietitian for personalized advice and guidance on weight loss.
